The seven Ramsar-areas in Bavaria.
Wetlands count among the earth´s most important environments. They are home to a rich variety of plant and animal species, including human beings. They both influence water quality and climate.
At the present Germany has 29 Ramsar areas, to receive the vital ecological systems. Seven of them are in Bavaria: lower river Inn, Chiemsee, Starnberger See, Ammersee, Ismaninger Reservoir and fish ponds, the area where the river Lech joins the Danube, the Danube forests and swamplands nearby.
Vital ecosystems.
Environments that meet the Ramsar Convention criteria are marshlands, swamplands, moist and wet meadows, running waters and lakes. All of the habitats provide living space for the multifaceted but vulnerable world of animals and plants.
